Hi All,

Beginning the hunt for a 328 and have been running through all the spec changes and updates through its life, with the main one being the adoption of ABS brakes and associated suspension changes in 1988/89.

All things being equal and buying on condition, is the ABS equipped 328 a better ownership proposition than a non ABS car? (apart from just being newer, although if that's relative for a nigh on 40 year old car)

I'm thinking both along the lines of the driving experience, plus the reliability and maintenance side - is this early ABS system a liability due to its age with reliability issues and scarce parts etc, so worth avoiding, or do the improvements outweigh any negatives?

Has anyone had any issues with the system and how easy was the fix?

I can manage straight forward day-to-day spannering myself, so is the system user friendly being an older and more analogue system?

Appreciate the perspectives of owners and enthusiasts whose experience I can pick.

May give a bit more guidance but my instinct would be pre-abs for less to go wrong and more repairable

Personally I prefer the look of the pre abs models with the concave wheel face as opposed to the latter convex look.
Either way I would be happy to buy both so wouldn't let it put me off if the car in best condition / history was an abs model.
Just buy the best you can get either with or without.
