People adding signatures to their posts

Seeing this more and more on PH. Some people are notorious for it (particularly one who infests the SP&L forum). I wish they would stop doing it because it is an irritating affectation. There really is no excuse for it (except that they started doing it X years ago and now have to carry on doing it because otherwise they would be admitting they were wrong to start).

Plenty of forums allow for a signature and I guess people get used to that?

Do you really think that is the reason, that they are used to doing it on another forum?

Never understood it. Can anyone explain what it's for? Forum sigs are for bunging stuff like website links, silly pictures and the like, not to repeat your username, so I'm genuinely interested why peole do it.
