Using £ sign - extra symbols appear??

Why when I post eg £1234 do I get lots of symbols appear in front of the £ sign?

I am using an iPhone, that have something to do with it?

Even if I edit my post it still has a capital 'A' stuck in front!

Odd. If you try to preview a reply with a £ symbol in it you get a parsing error.
