topic removal - ARGH!!!

Right I'm really annoyed at this. I have just noticed that a topic of mine I posted in the Porsche section has been removed. I was aaking advice on the value of my fathers car to find when i was notified of a response 20 mins ago that its been removed. I did stress on the topic that it isnt an advert and I am looking for advice. There are a couple of other discussions in the same forum to do with car valuation and countless ones in general gassing and none of them have been removed. Why has this happened to me? This is conpletely put of order PH.
Abuse report received as the thread was effectively an advert, despite a claim in your post that it wasn't. Accordingly in line with the site posting rules the thread was deleted. As and when we see or are notified of advert threads we delete them. Looking at the mods forum, two threads have been identified as veiled adverts and deleted from the porsche forum today, so yours isn't the only one.
A good idea for assessing values is to keep an eye on what else is for sale on the PH classifeds, autotrader etc.

I'm not sure that we are put out of order as we don't allow links to adverts.
We have 4million people reading PH and links to adverts are not allowed, that's jut our rules I'm afraid. It's all too easy to say 'what's my car worth' followed with a link to an advert to get some more exposure but we would rather you didn't.
Looking at similar cars in the classifieds will give you an idea of value, or asking a question without trying to gain traffic to the ad.

I understand, its just a bit annoying because all I was asking was what other people think the value of the car was, I wsant promoting it. People need info to make a decision, I wouldnt deliberatley go against your rules becuase I love the website, to be honest those forums dont annoy me so I cant see why someone would complain. You'd love them a lot less, and they would annoy you a lot more, if everyone who had a car for sale asked advice about their worth (and linked to the advert).The forums are a much better place for not being filled up with links to ads - everyone knows to look in the classifieds if they want to find a car for sale (or check on market value).
Surely linking to an ad in PH Classifieds should be allowed? I've been on PH since it were all fields and I believe the application of "the rules" has become too heavy-handed recently. It's all well and good preventing blatant advertising, but when genuine PH'ers get dragged into the firing line, it's just not cricket.
Rules 'aint changes Alex, the 'check the classifieds for values' has been in place since Ted taught me the rules over 5 years ago here in the PH office. You may not believe it, but it's true and we even used to have a template answer for just this issue.

Where Biker's Nemesis was allowed to cross post an image from the OP's Flickr account of a semi dressed girl in snow... where in previous postings whenever people have gone searching for other things about a poster via Flickr/Facebook/etc they have been rebuked/thread locked/deleted....
I don't mind either way, but the boundaries are a little vague these days?
