Irritating Adverts

Do we have a thread for reporting these? There seems to be a few around these days.




This particular ad stops you from using the drop down feature, ie I can't select 'Contributions' under 'My Info'

Yes, I've been trying to fix it. It's difficult to test because the ads only come up very rarely.

Is it easier for you if people who spot these specific type of ads post a new topic, or is there a dedicated thread?

Use an adblocker - I surf PH advert free, and it's great.

But I feel that by seeing the ads, I am allowing PH to make money to improve or maintain the site

Seeing the ads won't get much - it's all about click throughs. I never bothered doing that, so I'm guilt free.

Apologies, but that's not the way it works.

We do rely on campaign advertisements and impressions, not necessarily just click-throughs. Simply seeing the ads does help us run and maintain the website and we do make an effort to ensure they aren't irritating or distracting.

I've just seen this issue on a Castrol advert. Nothing major though as the Ctrl-F5 workaround is quite effective...

Yeah, I hadn't fixed anything but was hoping it was perhaps my fix last week that may have finally taken effect. It's an annoying issue as for some reason the advertisers feel a need to use a ridiculously high z-index for their adverts (which is just an arbitrary number to act as a sort of layering tool; they're using something like 1251 where a value of 1 would do just fine).

Yeah, so I suggest the F5 workaround until I can get to the bottom of this.

As the ad is a Haymarket house ad (Castrol driver rankings) you could just ask them to reduce the z-index or even just remove it. We have to do this all the time.
