Is it just me or is there an "ignore" function on PH, that hides all posts from a poster of your choosing?

Im sure Ive heard it mentioned....?

Can it be rushed into service please, or even a version of Inkiboo's patented mong filter. we need it over in BB with the ever mongified GatsoGremlin.

I think an ignore feature would be a bad thing, if someone is annoying me (doesn't happen if I'm honest) I just don't reply to them or skin their posts.

Snot the end of the world is it.

It can't be rushed into service because we don't plan on ever developing it. wink

Won't ignoring people end up with a load of threads that don't make any sense, and you'll still have to read the posts by people you don't like if they are quoted.

Why not?

It would really benefit the forum, in my opinion.

What a great feature, that ignore button idea is. I certainly could have used it a few times in the past mainly for, ya know, posters of daft thread ideas.

Problem is, once they've cottoned on to being ignored, could they not just change their username and carry on racking up their post count just as before?

As has already been pointed out, it would result in Swiss Cheese threads. It would also be fairly ineffective as people might quote the posts from people that you had ignored.

Can you not at least make it an option?

I could easily put with the lack of continuity of threads.

What happens if you put Garlick on your ignore list because he keeps telling you off? Then you get a hankering for ratty old Merc?

"Oh Pistonheads, I need a ratty old Merc, are there any resident experts?"

I'll tell you what happens, you get people telling you to buy a diesel mk4 Golf. In silver.

I could cope with that. Obviously Garlick wouldn't be on my ignore list anyway smile

Other forums have an ignore function. Why not PH? Can it not be set up as an optional thing?

In my view, there are a small minority of users who spoil a lot of threads with their tedious and repetitive posts. I would be willing to put up with a lack of thread continuity, if it meant I didn't have to read so much guff.

Regarding quotes, surely there are ways of filtering out quoted posts from users that I have set to ignore? Can't be that difficult technically, can it?

Other forums also have huge avatars, shopping-list signatures that are longers than the rubbish the poster is posting, and garish flashing graphics.

Pistonheads is not other forums. If you like other forums more than Pistonheads then you're welcome so sod right off to them. biggrin

I've been on here for quite a while. I know it is not like other forums.

Happy to accept that the answer is "no" to this request, but honestly, why bother having a website feedback section if the default response is "sod off somewhere else if you don't like it"?
