I’ve noticed recently and it seems to be happening more and more, that anyone voicing either a semi strong opinion has been accused of being a Troll, has happened to me too.

What I’d like to know is when did it become a trolling offence to have our own opinion on this board?? Or is it just because more people are aware of the term troll and the fact that there are people out there whose sole purpose is to troll and wind others up.

I know some throw the troll accusation at some post in jest but other times it isn’t or at least seems not to be taken as that.

(and just for the record this isn’t me being a Keyboard Warrior either, its just one of the things I’ve noticed lately and its getting on my tits a little as it seems to cause a bit of atmosphere in some threads)

I suspect some of it is how the alternate opinion is stated, some people state it in a particularly argumentative manner and this can be seen as provocative/argumentative and hence trolling. HTH

Did I say that sarcasticly, sincerely, jokingly or with any mallace?

You can not tell from the writen word what emotion the author is trying to portray. This is where forum debates become arguments and fall into trolling territory.

Don't take it personally. A lot of people are having to put with a lot of crap right now and taking it out on the internet as an annonimous keyboard warrior is their therapy.

Spot on. I never get dragged into serious arguments online these days but even i had a minor mardy strop the other night.

Better that we do it online than go knocking lumps out of each other in real life.

You c**ts.

This is what I mean.

Why does everything in the P&P need to be filtered into often irrelevant sections. Like when that thread about Doug Hutchinson was moved, I have no idea why, probably because it has a news link in it.

I like PistonHeads, it's a great community and a wealth of knowledge, but sometimes the moderation really does my head in. Do we really need to move every single thread in The Lounge because it might have a news link in or because it might be related to TV even when it is clearly a lounge type thread? I thought you were supposed to have banter in the lounge as well...

It annoys me because I like scanning through the lounge when I get home, especially if I want to read an update on a thread, only to find it has been moved rolleyes

Sometimes stating an opinion is trolling.

You wouldn't walk into the pub, go up to some guy that you don't know but who has just parked his Ferrari parked outside, and say to him 'Ferrari's are st' and then be all surprised if he thought you were a complete nob, so why do people do it on the Internet? There are ways to express opinions tactfully, that probably require mastering in these situations. This is an area where the Americans seem to have us licked, in my experience, actually, as they seem to come over a bit less hostile when disagreeing. Perhaps it depends on the location though.

Just had a worrying thought... Is this reply trolling? winkredface

The internet really shouldn't be taken too seriously. There are things that people are quite happy to say online that they wouldn't dream of saying to someone face. That's just how it is (rightly or wrongly)

Perhaps one should remember this when someone clearly tries to insult you on here - in the big scheme of things, it really doesn't matter and if you do feel affected by it, I would suggest you need to grow up and man up.

This is not directed at anyone in particular by the way so please don't get hard ons over it and start shouting at me for being a troll smile

I assume this is because this thread:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Where you claim you try to 'educate' F1 fans but only get blinkered, strawman responses?

I have no idea how anyone could assume that was trolling.

Threads will be moved to relevant sub fora when required, SOME members post in the Lounge regardless of the subject. The Lounge will NOT revert back to the old P&P free for all days, you have my assurance on that.

The lounge is only a catch all for threads that have no other area to fall in.

Even if a thread is moved you only have to click on the thread and it automatically redirects you, not really any extra effort is required is there?

The most common form of trolling I see is people contributing their opinion to threads that do not ask for it yet they still feel the desire to contribute it.

Example Question:

I have a 996 C4S and it makes a funny noise when I do........

Trollish Response:

I hate 996's they are the worst of the 911's. I wouldnt have one given me...

or

Have you considered driving lessons.

These types of response contribute nothing to the original thread and are usually posted by members who have somehow managed to accumilate 19,000 posts in 3 months.

Trolling and overly aggressive posting, it's clearly the future, frown with a community the size of PH it will attract a fair number of both sorts as they get a large audience to play to, would be nice to have a few more mods or even pcso style modlets to keep an eye on things, and keep the peace.

It appears mods sometimes read one line and see one word...
