I never use it, just go to google and add the keyword "site:www.pistonheads.com" to search the site and "site:www.pistonheads.com/gassing" for the forums.

We are having some db load issues. I'll have a look into it but it seemed ok just now...

Why is it so hard to have even the 'thread title' search working?

It currently works. Our search functionality is very intensive, so at peak times it takes longer and will time out.

If it doesn't work, try searching google and specifying
site:pistonheads.com

Sadly, it's more a matter of replacing it with a better technology than fixing it. wink

Oh all right then, have one of these instead. biggrin

I know you have issues with the search function, but it always seems to be down for days on end for maintenance on a regular basis.

Is the search function really that carp?

To be honest, it really is that crap. It's very rudimentary and uses a lot of resources.

To put it into geek terms, we have over several million posts in our database and MySQL has to look at every one to perform a search (with the exception of some basic caching). It needs to be replaced, and we'll be doing that when we have the time. But for now most things can be found by typing "site: pistonheads.com" as part of a google search.

Well remove the button then as that will stop us pressing it and then complaining about it not working

Just do what I do and save this as a book mark...

Saaaave me, saaaave me, saaaaaaave meeeeeee, I can't face this life aloooone!

And use that in future. Just put your query on the end of the search text.
