I have recently advertised my car on here and thought it important to mention the following. I received a response about mu ad from a tomgross777@gmail.com. He advised me that he was interested and would pay the asking price and would arrange collection of my car. He then advised that he could not pay the shipping company as they would only accept Western Union and not paypal (his only means of paying). He offered to transfer the full payment plus the shipping fee if I would pay the shipping company out of this money but then I received 3 fake emails from paypal advising that I had to pay a western union credit to a Graeme Redgewell, Snow Hill Copthorne, West Sussex rh10 3eq. Once I had done this I would be given a reference number to quote to paypal who would release the money.

Since I knew that paypal do not operate like this I checked my paypal account and there was no activity. I then called paypal to discuss and they confirmed it is a scam.

If you receive an email from this person or from anyone asking you to send money in order to pay for shipping of your vehicle up front ignore it it is a scam. Also look out for fake paypal emails. Do not follow any of the links just forward them to spoof@paypal.com an they will investigate.

Thanks for posting it. As soon as you see Western Union or even just someone offering to pay in full or arranging collection, it screams "scam!".

When you think about it, no sane buyer would pay the full amount unless it's a highly collectable/sought-after car.

Thanks for the post. I've alerted our anti-scam guys and they'll see what they can do to get this person banned, and also alert anyone else he may have contacted. thumbup
