FAQ Stickies and FAQs
Discussion
Can we make this thread (or something similar) a sticky at the top of SP&L
so that everyone knows to look in the FAQs
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&a...
Does SP&L include Insurance and Tax (VED) issues too?
Is everyone happy for this as a way of making a thread to go in the FAQs?

I think the FAQ should contain what is believed to be the definitive position and locked
If any part of that position is to be discussed, it can be done so in a separate thread and if at the end of that discussion the FAQ should be changed it can.
If the discussion doesn't reach an end it may be useful to add a 'brief' note of the varying opinion for future reference and discussion - after all that's what a forum is for

That seems like the most straightforward way to go.
I'll have a fiddle with FiF's attempt and see how we go.

The other thing is that I wish PH would make its mind up what it wants, PH as in the owners. We ask for a thread to be stickied so it's obvious and people won't ask the same question over and over again. "No!" they say, "that is what the FAQ section is for."
Except nobody reads the FAQ section, hence this thread.
I agree with your comment above, sort out in a thread what is the definitive position, then write a separate FAQ thread and sticky it, stick it in FAQ or wherever but put it somewhere to avoid the same questions being asked over and over again.
The definitive position can be split a number of waysExcept nobody reads the FAQ section, hence this thread.

a) what do government websites say? for instance they say that you should always display a tax disc
b) what does the law say? eg you dont always have to display a tax disc for the first 5 days
c) what does case law say? an example of this shows when you are allowed to cross stuck red traffic lights
d) what is custom and practice? speed limit enforcement at +10%+2 mph
If we have those in an FAQ it should put to rest endless argument where one person is holding firm that (a) is right where someone else is stuck at (b)
In practice theyre both right (the government says this and the law is that)
