PH and Motability
Discussion
So I see another Motability thread went so far off course that it had to be locked again
Could PH not do a news piece about the scheme, educate people as to how it is funded, how it isn't neccesarily a massive scam on our precious taxes etc
It seems there are a number of people on here who have need or use the scheme and it would be good if people could actually be educated, you could even get 'your man Harris' to get a motability car sideways, or something
Just a thought, if it was a proper PH article some of the lesser educated may actually read it before jumping in with both size 12's

I think this is a very good idea - in the past week or so there have been at least 2 threads derailed by people that clearly don't know anything about the scheme.
This is a car website, and there are members who will need advice about what car would be suitable for their needs. I think a bit of simple education would improve the quality of these threads and stop the same "issues" being dragged up time and time again

Maybe I am being thick but PH seems very partisan when it comes to this subject, I thought a feature on someone who uses this scheme and what it means to them how it improves their life and how it works my allow a more balanced view and educate some of the 'They are all spongers wasting our taxes brigade'
Did I use the wrong phrase?
Not at all. It just seems odd that certain facts have to be given by a disabled person. To be honest, anyone who is ignorant of the facts in the thread and chooses not to take in facts given by people in there, are not likely to take them in in an article, but that's just my opinion.

Agreed.
How about an article written by some disabled PH'ers?
As a disabled driver, who's been in receipt of mobility allowance for over 30 years, and has in the past contributed to such threads, (I can no longer be arsed) How about an article written by some disabled PH'ers?
I've come to the conclusion, that there is an element that don't want to understand, can not be made to understand, love showing their riteous indignation, and are therefor impossible to educate...
And for that reason alone... f
k em.... Let them think what they want to think, you'll never change them so why waste time on it...??TheHeretic said:

Agreed and my original thought was a PH article but as they wouldn't be interested in doing one I thought the carpool idea was a good second bestI know it shouldn't need to be done but surely anything that can educate by whatever means is better than not trying

Your phrase indicated there are two sides to the coin, I agree there is.People don't have objections to the scheme well not me anyway as my immediate family have had the benefit of it. I see it as finacial help for what are sometimes to the able bodied simple tasks.
But I was wondering about your coin as on one side it would have a deserving good cause being helped by the wider society in what for most people is a simple task with everything rosie and bright.
But what about the other side? what would be on there?
Maybe a multi millionaire with a jaguar on the drive parked next to the motability mini provided for the mother with artheritus that his son drives (well he has fetched milk for his disabled mother)once or twice
This is where the objection are. because quite clearly people are claiming from the system money that they do not need which prevent others from getting help they do need.
I was alarmed and somewhat suprised to hear that although a tragic story our prime minister david cameron claimed DLA, he did this despite his allready large wealth. Yes I understand that it was for the child (very sad indeed) but who could have been helped with that money, money the camerons could have lived without. I say this with the knowledge I would NOT have changed places with him for all the tea in china it must have been terrible, but I cannot for the life of me see how £50 a week would have had any impact at all it was just £50 a week that could have made a big difference to somebody else.
I am not jealous of wealth I just don't believe those that have it need state assistance.
Is that what you describe as thick? Or was it the other posters that say we should only provide fuction not fashion?
ETA should I have added a disclaimer like this

- ****Disclaimer************* this post is not intended to offend, upset or cause any distress to it's readers. It is just a conversation where peoples views are shared.
Also You advocate PH educating us but the threads are always closed how can we better understand if the discussion isn't allowed to happen?
