Pistonheads should be covering the BMW theft story
Discussion
There's a 28 page thread here detailing widespread theft's of BMW's exploiting a known weakness in BMW's security.

As many members of the PH massive have pointed out some media pressure would undoubtedly help to focus BMW's mind....surely Pistonheads as part of the Haymarket group can use it's influence to get this covered in the wider motoring media.
It would be doing a huge service to it's members if Pistonheads could do this. After all if you can write an article about 206 Ferrari engines being recalled surely hundreds of BMW's being stolen (many from PH members ) is newsworthy..........

I suspect they are more concerned about having a ready supply of new cars to drive / write about in the future and don't want to rock the boat.
If that were true then no mag would ever publish anything negative about a popular brand. But I don't believe that's the case.Rollcage said:
Do BMW advertise on PH?
No idea but obviously BMW do advertise in plenty of Haymarket's titleshttp://www.haymarket.com/sector/cars_and_aftermark...
What Car and Autocar being the obvious two.
Still it would be nice to think that given that Pistonheads would be nothing without it's members the people that inhabit PH Towers will give this story the attention it should have.

Agreed, a bit of investigative journalism would be a nice touch. Perhaps run a survey to see just how widespread the problem is. Use the sites position to get word from BMW, insurance companies, police etc.
Good idea - they should frame it as an attempt to help tackle the issue rather than to report the shortcomings of BMW's recent cars. It's one thing members of a forum talking about an issues and then that being raised as a collective voice. It's another thing entirely PH taking a leading journalistic role in the sense of an investigation. New territory and suspect not one that PH bods would be entirely comfortable doing. Quicksand is a word that comes to mind.

I agree that the poster above asking for "investigative journalism" might be asking too much. BUT they could still cover the discussion which is being had on the forum, to raise it's profile a bit outside the forum.I totally agree, if only there was a way to get the statistics from the police of all the BMW's that have been reported stolen especially the ones that have been stolen without the keys from innocent People from all over the UK that way BMW would have to come up with a resolution immediately even though it's far too late for me, but at least it could help save others pride and joy!!!
