Holidays Forum - Sticky?
Discussion
Hi, I've often used the Holidays forum to get recommendations on where to go, what to do when out there and things to look out for.
I think it'd be quite useful to set up a sticky, which we can build up with knowledge of all the countries people have been to, and what recommendations people have made. Sort of like a PH recommendations map of the world.
When someone is going somewhere, they can go to the sticky, search for the country and see the threads that match. Something similar has been done in the Foods forum, for restaurant recommendations, so thought it might be a good idea for travel too...

I guess it would work with regard to ancient relics and other long-standing attractions - though these would be in any guide book/tourist webpage.
Other things change far too quickly, IMO; bars and restaurants come and go, what's hot one year is not the next. Whenever I post a thread asking for locality information, I'm always after stuff no older than 6-12 months.

The main areas of a destination will remain the same, so I disagree with you there. Yes, of course anyone can use a tourist guide. Just like anyone can use Google for most questions asked in these forums. The point is to get people's individual contributions. Whether people follow them or not is up to them, but it's inclusive and helps people share knowledge.Other things change far too quickly, IMO; bars and restaurants come and go, what's hot one year is not the next. On here, I doubt people will be interested in which bars to go to, but more about which places to go and see, and why. For example, I'll be going to Antigua, and people have recommended going to St Johns, Shirley Heights, hiring a car as it's not that easy to get around etc. These are the kind of things that are useful.
If you're after very recent opinions, tour guides are going to be little use to you as well....just saying.
