14 days before I can post a message?

I've just signed up and have to wait 14 days before I can contribute with some useful information in Plod & the Law?
I dont want to have to remember to return in 14 days and will probably have forgotten what was on my mind by that time anyway.
Surely it would have been more sensible to alert me to this restriction before signing up???????

You could pass the time by thinking of a more appropriate username?
Or complete your profile. Or post a picture of your car. Or tell us how great/terrible the new shop is.

Thank you, at least I got one intelligent reply.It might not bother others but I dont like giving out personal information, even the cars I drive (4 including V8), and when it comes to user names (thanks for the smart comment from another reply) what's wrong with it?
Great start and I'm not here to get flamed or create a nuisance, I just didnt expect after learning the rules, securely saving yet another password and waiting for some time while the site wasnt open due to abuse, to have to wait 14 days before I could post some information which was an answer to an unanswered question.
As I also have a car to sell I didnt want to unsubscribe or close my account (which was my first reaction) and find I wasnt able to create a new account later so I posted what I thought was a fair and respectful comment having been to this site on many previous occasions and enjoyed its content.
I also agree with the policy and can understand why its in place but why not make it clear from the outset or did I miss something?

Not that I'm cynical or anything but sounds a bit fishy that you sell products that can be mounted to a windscreen and you only joined to post on a thread from November 2011? If its that important that you reply I suggest that you get enjoy the rest of the forums first, once your 14 day period is up feel free to post on the thread. Just make sure that it isn't a veiled advert or a link to your website I sell products that will often end up on the windscreen e.g. sat-navs and after quite a bit of research I found information regarding the correct placement advised by the Dept For Transport which applies to the MOT test as well and might or might not get a lot of people into trouble esp. in case of an accident.

Okay, thats fine.I'm very well aware that posting anything for commercial gain is not on and the only reason that I wanted to reply to an old thread in Nov 11 was that it was the most relevant information on the subject that came up when I Googled 'swept windscreen area' but so be it, if you feel that I'm out for anything other than open, interesting and constructive debate I'll find another forum that is more welcoming.

This is where you shouldn't place any obstructions which to me makes many sat-nav users vulnerable to a ticking off or worse and why I'm naturally interested in this subject:
