Chrome + iOS + PH = Broken

I've just download Chrome on my iPhone and tried browsing the PH mobile site and it's forever crashing. Now I'm not sure where the issue lies (PH or Chrome), but I thought you should know and might like to have a look for yourselves.

Chrome is just a webkit wrapper for iOS. I would just use Safari.

Can you tell me how to reproduce the crash? I've just downloaded chrome for iPad here at PH Towers and all seems fine.

It seems to work fine on the iPad here too. It's when I use the mobile site on an iPhone. There doesn't seem to be an pattern I'm afraid, just navigate around the forums a bit and it should crash. Mine has done it without fail.

I'm running it on an iPhone 4 with the latest OS (whatever that might be!)

Chrome worked fine for me, but I didn't like how I had to go hunting in the menus for bookmarks, so back to safari. PH used to, (still does sometimes), crash when I type in the box and it hasn't finished loading the page. Doesn't seem to do it for any other website.

Looks good to me, will be nice to finally get rid of Safari.

It's built n the same stuff. Essentially the same browser, just slightly behind the up to date one apple have in safari. The only real benefit I can see with chrome is syncing bookmarks from chrome on your desktop.

Exactly. Chrome is still using Safari and is slower than just using Safari to begin with.


My suggestion is to restart your iOS device and try again. That usually solves most crash issues with new apps on iOS.

Nope. Still crashing.

As for chrome being faster / slower I just prefer it as I can sync my history etc across devices.

I'm hoping that it will address the issue whereby the contents of tabs are reloaded as you switch between them. There also seem to be some useful keyboard improvements.

The tab issue was down to memory on the original iPad. The 2 and the 3 don't have this issue, (unless you have a daft amount of tabs open. There is only so much memory available).

No, I went to my stuff, clicked a link and then realised that wasn't what I wanted and clicked a different link.

Not sure if that will reproduce it, but it appeared to not like having two requests in quick succession.

Haven't experienced it this far. How resource intensive are each of the tabs?

Matt, whilst you are here, any idea why when you press the little arrow icon, ( to take you to the last message you read), it insists on flicking up to the blue line until the advert loads? It is annoying. You scroll down, and up it pops, you scroll down again, and whoosh, back up it goes. The ad loads, then you are free to scroll.
