thats ace !An identical post has been up on another car forum for a week, has prompted several responses and a number of high quality interviews carried out.
A PhD is an original contribution to knowledge. People with PhDs drive knowledge forward and they need to do research to do this. By binning my thread you thwart that process and ultimately, such policies drive your customers elsewhere.

How on earth will the place survive without your vital contribution of 0.39 posts per month for the last 11 years??? Is this the beginning of the end???
Bearing in mind the fact that PH is owned by a company rather than an individual, it's understandable that they have a rather more strict policy, but they're hardly draconian, are they?
Having said that, I suppose in your case the b
ds must've shut down a fairly significant proportion of the threads you've started, just with this one, so your sense of injustice is maybe somewhat understandable.

You should have an email from us (to the email address used to register with PH) that has an explanation. I will repeat it here though, since you have asked. We don't allow members to request research information from forum members and as such they are deleted. As a long term member I am sure you will have noticed the lack of this type of topic.
Occasionally they are allowed, after permission has been sought and an agreement has been made, but that happens infrequently. Why? Quite simply, if we allowed anyone to ask the members to 'answer a few questions' we would have everyone from students doing dissertations to companies asking for reader opinion, and we don't want that to happen, it opens floodgates we'd rather remain closed.
Also it was posted across two forums, one of which is specifically for car talk, so we spotted it fairly quickly.
Hope this clears things up.

I left Ph alone for a long time when people on here started expressing concern about the site being referred to Pen*sheads on other forums. It rang true for me, merely because I didn't find I could relate to the macho culture that exists on here. Yes there are many decent people but the vibe on PH is very different to other forums I use. I dipped back in briefly when a friend worked for PH a couple of years ago, despite the incessant and uninformed contributions and comments that seem to characterise the forums. Jeez, I remember when the internet forums were full of early adopters and open minded people with policies to match. Then everyone got broadband and the standard of social interaction plummeted.

I wouldn't say that - it's got extremely inconsistent and frequently poorly executed moderating for sure, and one big moderator in particular has a panic attack if he see's so much as a well formed ankle, but it's not draconian.
