What car threads

Am I the only one that thinks all the "what car?" threads desperately need a sub forum of their own? It seems to be getting a bit ridiculous in the general gassing sub forum as rarely an hour goes by without a new thread appearing. The standard response to them all is either MX5, MR2, 330i, 335d or Fabia VRS anyway regardless of what criteria the 'askee' sets.

I did have a feeling there would be an older thread and in my defence I searched back nearly 6 months but found nothing. Search function is less than hopeless of course.

A forum of irs own would see no traffic - no one would go in just to give advice where as they do if they see one pop up in GG.

Thats what I think anyway.

I dunno; a lot of people on PH like the look of their own typing and like giving out advice. I would have though a sub forum entirely full of people asking for help would be popular.

Others - e.g. Homes, gardens & DIY - seem to function on this basis.

I agree with this point.

If I see a "what diesel saloon barge should I get - £8k to spend" I'll dive in and give my recommendations based on experience of owning 2 Saabs and an Audi A6.

Same for "MX5 vs MRs @6k - which should I get?" - I can give my point of view based on daily ownership and use.

I wouldn't go to a "What car should I get?" forum.

I agree. The argument that no-one would visit is a poor one because the topic is essentially very much like the 'readers cars' forum which happens to be the 4th busiest in 'general gassing' out of the 14 forums. I wish something was done about them because they are taking over the entire forum and it's getting to be a royal pain in the arse having to search back umpteen pages every day just to find some 'normal' threads. And who the fk takes advice from people on an internet forum on what sort of car to buy anyway? At least do some legwork and get on autotrader or something get a shortlist of 2 or 3 cars together . I'm willing to bet that 79% of those that post such threads won't buy on the advice given in the thread anyway; 1% possibly will and the other 20% just post as look-at-how-rich-I-am willy-wavers "what car for £100k?" which come up far too frequently.
