So no it wouldnt be across domains unless the missing www is causing it.
It's the same issue, though slightly different.
The link was to pistonheads.com and you're logged on to www.pistonheads.com

The problem as described is a new one; it's been happening to me on Firefox 15 on two PCs at home since about Tuesday. "Domain changes" weren't a problem for me until this week, when the two PCs went from Firefox 14 to 15. A third PC here sees infrequent use and still has Firefox 13; it logged on here automatically after a 2 week layup, which the other two have often struggled to do this week (and that's just to log on initially, never mind "domain changes").
Maybe it's the latest version of Firefox, or maybe not??? But it's a mild inconvenience.
