I've been having this a lot recently. Just went to http://www.grapeshot.co.uk/privacy.php and selected opt out of thier tracking, and all of a sudden I can load pages.
ETA: spoke too soon, just had about 10 attempts to load this thread before giving up.on the pc and trying on my phone instead. PH is becomming almost unusable on my home and work PCs because of this.

Try Adblock Plus, it's brilliant and it's free. It's amazing how quickly pages load without loads of resource intensive adverts ruining things. It's like it used to be a few years ago

If you're using Firefox, use Ghostery. It's designed to block the ad tracking companies, think of it as adblock for trackers rather than adverts.
Make sure that if you do, you completely enable the tracker lists and disable the (imo annoying) popup on page loads.
At the minute, in this post window it's showing 4 blocked trackers; Doubleclick, Google Analytics, Grapeshot and Tealium. On the main windows there are 6 or more.

When we're serving nonsense that slows your machine I can appreciate that the argument against using blockers looks flimsy.
However please consider this:
1. Many of our ads are served on a CPM basis (ie just for being served, rather than being clicked) so we get paid without you clicking. If you run blockers, you're depriving us of the revenue which is used to cover the site's running costs. I'm not going to attempt to plead poverty for one moment, but the commercial model for this site is ad based, not subscription based.
2. Tealium and Google Analytics are not used for ad serving. If you're going to use Ghostery, please at least allow those tags. They help us to understand how people use the site, and inform changes to design hopefully in a way which makes change good.
We're always trying to improve the relevance of the ads we serve. More relevant ads are (hopefully) less intrusive, and generate more clicks. Grapeshot is one of the things we tried, but it hasn't worked and so the code will be stripped out shortly I believe. This issue should go away soon.
