Placed ads for years, but now I can't on new site?
Discussion
I can't seem to submit an ad, it asks for my user name and password, I put these in and just get a red message saying user name or password are not valid.
What do I need to do? These details have allowed me to place ads until very recently on the old classified ads. What additional info do I need for this new 'improved' system?

That is the correct login, so go here to reset your password: http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/account/forgott...
Never had to do that before, but have done it now.
But now I'm being asked to pay to renew old ads? Are free ads no longer available? I've always been able to place ads for free in the past.
I've been trying to place an ad for over an hour now, still can't.

Thanks Stuart, appreciate you getting in touch. Was hoping it would be something like that as a similar thing happened when you initially changed the classifieds if I remember right.
If you could flick the switch when you get a chance that will be great, I'll stick the ad up tomorrow, will give me something to do at work...

That's very strange. I gave you free ads a few hours back. But now I'm being asked to pay to renew old ads? Are free ads no longer available? I've always been able to place ads for free in the past.

I can renew it for you. What's the advert ID?
And can you let me know if you're having the same problem if you try to create a new ad?
Sorry for delay in replying, went to bed early as it was a school night.
Still can't renew my old ads for free. I just a get a payment screen that I get stuck at, no option to avoid payment etc.
Will try and place a new ad at lunchtime, wish me luck!
Are you mod/techy guys as frustrated with this 'new, improved' classifieds section as we all are?!

Personally, no. The new classifieds, which I will concede is not (yet) perfect, is still less of a headache than running the old site. Of course you're having an issue at the moment, but the old site had issues of its own as well. The main difference is most of the old classifieds issues were caused by a lack of performance because we were running on extremely ancient code (loads of timeouts, 500 errors, database overload, etc.) Now that we've upgraded the code to something that can actually perform and be resilient, we can resolve any remaining issues. I appreciate the frustration from a user's perspective when something you know and love is changed with something that doesn't quite work for you, but for as huge of a code change as this has been (100% new code and new databases) I'm quite happy with the way it has turned out so far and I don't think it's too optimistic to say that in a few weeks time we'll have the last remaining issues such as yours sorted out.
Anyway, enough of my opinion. I'm going to be looking at your particular issue first thing this morning.

I'd echo what Matt says. Last year was horrendous for everyone. This time it is performing well, and we look at a balance of actual user data and comments in these forums. Last year is was a combination of user data saying that it simply wasn't working, and hundreds of people echoing that fact. This time the user data suggests that it is working extremely well (albeit, as Matt says, with bugs to iron out, many of which only emerge as you expose more traffic to the site) and the number of comments in here have been very small, and mostly about the same couple of issues.
So we're a very long way from slapping ourselves on the back, but we're pretty pleased with the way it is going so far.

So I've gone through the code and I can verify it's definitely a bug for users with existing ads that have only recently been given free ad status. In other words, if you were to create a new ad you wouldn't be asked to pay. For now, I'll just renew your advert(s) manually though our admin panel.Let me know the reference numbers (or vaguely what the ad is) and I'll get it up on the site for you ASAP!

Thanks, if you could just renew the number plate ad that would be appreciated.
Will try and place a new ad in the watch section now, hopefully all will go ok.
Wasn't having a dig with my question regarding any frustrations your end, I don't pretend to know what all the unseen coding issue running a site comes with. I'm sure you guys at PH are looking forward to the finished article as much as us but that you see the benefits of the new system long before we've all learnt how to use it.
Anyway thanks for all your help so far, will place my new ad now.

Tried to place the ad... can't upload images.
I select them but they never appear and the column on the right looks odd, almost like there should be a blank field that will auto-fill with my pic file name. Or maybe not, either way if I select my first image all that happens is 'add photo 2' becomes live and so on.

We've had one other example of this, with a trader. What browser are you using, and how big are the files you're trying to upload?I select them but they never appear and the column on the right looks odd, almost like there should be a blank field that will auto-fill with my pic file name. No worries, didn't take that as a dig. Just figured if my opinion was asked I'd give it.

As for the photo issues, a chap on here last night was having a problem uploading files that were 3MB in size. Could you try resizing them?

Ah, just saw your previous post. Hmm... that is strange.
Would you mind letting us know which versions you are using? It might be worth going back and re-testing them.
How technical are you? If I asked you to disable flash and try again, could you? If so, we have a different javascript uploader that shows in its place.
