I've just woken the rest of the house up through laughter and I had a story to add frown

Funniest thread in a long time.

''off-color humor (also known as vulgar humor or crude humor) is an Americanism used to describe jokes, prose, poems, black comedy, blue comedy, insult comedy, cringe comedy and skits that deal with topics that are considered to be in poor taste or overly vulgar by the prevailing morality of a culture. Most commonly labeled as "off-color" are acts concerned with sex, a particular ethnic group, or gender. Other off-color topics include violence, particularly domestic abuse; excessive swearing or profanity; "toilet humor"

Maybe why?

I've seen worse threads run and run: in fact the post that ajcj's thread originally appeared in was pages long.

A shame indeed, I was nearly crying with laughter at some of the comments - "give it a bit more choke and it'll start" rofl

Best close all six volums of the Sean Connery Joke thread then.

a lot of stuff on ph is pretty puerile and I stay away from those threads, but maybe a mod thought the same.

"If there's only two traps and you're reading every thread in The Lounge, what's a chap to do if he's got one nibbling at his shorts?"

I almost died of laughter rofl.

I'm genuinely upset this has been closed!

Granted, I love the News, Politics & Economics section as much as the next Pher for serious discussion. And the threads in the Lounge such as the Sobering moments which really bring a tear to your eye. But a purile thread every now and then isn't hurting anybody.

Well, I've let my thoughts be known now... Off I go.

I wondered about this, I have to admit I found it rather amusing.

PH is becoming a bit too over-moderated, in my opinion.

The mods have gone way over the top in the last few weeks on all sorts of threads and posts. It's stupid stuff like this thread that the Gassing Station was built on and they would do well to remember that.

P.S. A mod will be along shortly to quote rules and regulations and then close this topic.

I closed it because it was dross, and IMO it'd have been closed even when all this was fields.

No, the threads that stayed open in the 'O' days where the ones that had merit and quality, some of us where around in those days too. smile

To be fair when I first started here, all those years ago, Ted was regularly closing topics with the now famous 'raise the bar' comment. Same is true today and no rule tightening as been requested from me.

Whenever we close a thread it will give cause for comment, what doesn't get noted is the thousands that stay open. I'd like to think we strike a fair balance, but I appreciate that not all will agree with me.

Edit: Blimey, we're like buses.

I didn't even see the thread; I just wanted to agree about the excessive moderation of late.

Who decides what's dross? You? What's wrong with a bit of dross anyway?

Perhaps some rule slackening should be requested from you?

If I recall, Ted only closed threads that got personal.

Slackening isn't needed IM(h)O.

The 'raise the bar' comment meant just that, it didn't relate to personal matters, more those we felt brought the tone of the forums down to an unacceptable level.

Ted my have, but most of the mods that assisted Ted in those days and closed threads are still modding the site today, so the fields are not that much greener.

Nothing's changed as far as I'm aware, as Al and Paul have said PH has always tried to maintain a standard and I don't see any reason to change that. It's not like there isn't the rest of the Internet to have a giggle at if PH is too staid for you.

Couldn't popular threads just be 'cleaned up' instead of closed as i'm sure 98% of the content won't be offensive.

Surely if threads are now being closed due to their 'quality of content' it will be a pretty empty forum quite soon!

This was one of the funniest things I have seen on PH in a long time. Genuine explosion of laughter.
