Since the proliferation of posts from mobile devices, we have seen a massive increase in doube/triple posts that clog up the forums. I'm sure we've all seen it. I think part of it is because some mobile browsers automatically refresh when you open them - so if someone has posted on PH from a mobile browser, then puts their phone away, then opens their browser a while later, it will submit the post again. I'm sure a lot of them are down to poor signal and people manually re-submitting a post too.

Is there an intelligent way to prevent it? Some kind of checksum on the post contents so that if a duplicate post is attempted it can be denied?

It's really annoying.

When you post a message on mobile you will sometimes get an error message after clicking submit. The user will go back to the posting page and submit the message again, not realising it had already worked the first time around.

Needs something doing about it really. smile

Yeah - I'm obviously clever enough to do that, but a lot of other PHers aren't. wink

There's another issue with the PH software and its interaction with the Safari (desktop) browser which generates double posts without repeated submission.

PH is the only site where it happens, so I'm blaming the PH code.

Which may well be like the Da Vinci code.

My bank gives you something like that for logging in on their website.

Its when you move onto another forum, then hit back which takes you to the "message posted" screen.
