Everytime I post and every few pages I click on I get this message, yet the forums are working. It's driving me mad. smile

"As part of our effort to reduce load on our database, we have disabled the forum group pages temporarily whilst we make some changes behind the scenes. Thanks for bearing with us. smile"

A bug at my end or P'heads?
Thanks.

It's not a glitch. As the message says the forum group links have been disabled because the database is struggling to keep up with demand.

So, in the links at the top ( Pistonheads >> Gassing Station >> General Gassing >> Website Feedback) General Gassing is the forum group.

Ah, ok. I see what you mean now. Switching from forum to forum.
I figured because the forums themselves were working it was a glitch.

Thanks.

No worries. I might (try to) add something to the message to clarify things as it's not best explained at the moment.

Already done thumbup To be fair it made sense if you understood the forum structure but hopefully my addition will clarify things.

So how temporary is temporary? It's bloody annoying not being able to click on the header and get the latest topics in all fields

We're working on optimising the back-end of the forums this week to recover from what happened late last week. Should only take a few days, but I'm not inclined to give a hard date.

How are things going on this? I don't like not being able to access the P&P as a whole thing. frown

Try using "What's New" -> http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/whatsnew.asp?h=...

It'll show you everything which is new from forums highlighted in your favorites (specified within your preferences here -> http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/prefs.asp?h=0&a... ) If you have no favorites specified it'll show you what's new from everywhere..

I must admit that being a little slow I thought it meant you'd switched off the forums completely for about a day.

Maybe adding "accessing the lower level forums individually is still possible, eg SPL, general gassing, News Politics Economics" (with the relevant links).

Most importantly, is it working?!

It's all very well saying it's "as part of [your] effort to reduce load on [your] database" but you could reduce the load even more by just closing the forums altogether or even closing Pistonheads. But that's not really the point, surely?

Out of interest, what database do you use, and how big is it?

anyone else still click on the groups every single time they log on to the site out of habit? getting very annoying!

wonder if they'll sort out the hamsters before I finally remember to not click on groups.

Nope. I use My Stuff and What's New, rather than the forum groups.

We use MySQL, and it's roughly the size of Luxembourg.

Funny this. When the forums first changed we were all up in arms about the changes (including me)
Now we are used to it, it is miles better and now this ability has been cruelly removed I feel lost and bewildered.
I reckon this is one massive "We told you so" ploy by the techies.

The site is working, a minor piece of functionality has been disabled whilst it is optimised.
