People ruining pistonheads

If we can't feel big behind the keyboard we might have anarchy on our hands!
ETA: Didn't realise the thread had been closed, surely it would be better for the site as a whole to ban those ruining threads, they're often the same posters and in that thread it was clear who they were.
It seems the policy of closing threads rather than binning idiots is one which will drag PH down to a series of repetitive what car and should I buy a diesel threads. Sad.

Quite, the name change came about a few years ago after I flounced. Seems its relevant again.I generally read the forums while stood in the doorway of a train travelling to / from london and threads like the car salesmans provided an interesting insight in to another industry.
Ruined now though.
I had quite a lengthy spell recently where I really couldn't be bothered with GG. It was mainly a bit of a wavering interest in cars as other parts of my life took precedence for a while. I've arrived back here and I've got to say I'm finding it hard work. There is so much bickering and name calling and generally antagonistic posting. I'm sure it wasn't always like this. A real shame.
Looking on the bright side, there is still some great stuff posted on here and that still makes it worthwhile.

You can always tell a thread is going to go against the op.
eg thread starts with someone caught at 100 on the motorway, people tell him he has no regard for human life, deserves all he gets etc etc.
Thread starts with someone saying they would never do 100 on a public road, people tell him he's daft, look at Germany, speed rarely a factor etc etc.
Stupid example but have seen it on a daily basis over the 8 odd years I've been here, people just want to argue.
That said I'm still here because pistonheads is the best forum about with some seriously knowledgable people, I just hope they don't all leave because of those who think they are seriously knowledgable people.

I just skimmed it and it seemed to descend into another slanging match, car salesman appear to be figures of hate on here despite the fact that the thread and one or two PHers who sell cars have given me some cracking advice on buying cars that no magazine article would have given me. I've recently started reading GG again and this a constantly recurring theme now. It's gone from people making obviously sarcastic and in most cases amusing comments often completely at odds to the OP, to posters being deliberately antagonistic and in many cases just banging on and on and on and......about the same point which is just not bloody relevant.
The 320d thread is a prime example IMO, a thread asking if a car is the right choice to cruise up and down the motorway, which started off with reasonable suggestions of alternatives, then into a BMW and Ford bashing thread, then into name calling about heel and toeing.
There are many parts of PH which still function perfectly well, is it just GG that attracts the knobs and know-it-alls?

Bit harsh that. It's not Garlick's fault that people are deliberately antagonistic on here. If he steps in too early or often, then there's cries of overmoderation etc. Difficult one but I can't blame the traders for going elsewhere. However, a thread called "The Car Salesman's Thread" was always going to get the haters, IMO. Like many professions (such as Police, teachers, council officers), it's a very contentious industry with a lot of them and us type feelings for those of us not in the trade, and I think it's very easy to get wound up when you're risking several grand of your own hard-earned money on a car and have an issue with the human interface.
