Hi Petrol ted, would you please consider a thread for use by 'old car enthusiasts'. Perhaps a pre 1960's or something like that?

I have posted a couple of threads about an old car I am buying and had good sensible replies. I think with all the classics out their the forum would get well used.

It would be great to see an expansion into this area and really useful if advertisers came on as well?

Yes, if you like, anything included of a certain age. Could end up with all sorts of interesting machinery from tourers to fully blown classic racers. If the tread becomes well used you might want to then consider splitting it into various types, but that is later perhaps.

Of course, there's material for pages of discussion in determining where the cut-off point ought to be. I'd be inclined to make it pre-80s, as the 80s was the decade in which electronic gadgetry and hot hatches, although not originating in that decade, really began to take over. It was also the decade in which rear wheel drive became unavailable on anything lower down the scale than a Volvo, and the decade in which the whole character of cars underwent a distinct change.

The one outstandingly good feature of the 80s IMO was the creative combination of Rover V8s and fibreglass by some bunch in Blackpool

Fair point Pigeon, thing is if Ted agrees and provides a forum if the 'cut off point' is, erm, modenish then a big overlap may occur in new forum and existing forums.

My guess is that the date might be pre-1960, but then again

I'd prefer not to give it as boring a label as 'classics' as I think that's the wrong name/image. Anyone got any more exciting ideas for a title?

»Orgasmic Living«?

ooops, wrong thread

How about »Carburettored Gassing«?

(vintage, historic, classic and veteran are terms used to classify vehicle to a certain era iirc, so it might make sense not to use one of these for a forum that should cover them in general)

Hmmm... what could it be called...

"Jumpers for goalposts"

"It weren't like that in my day"

"Look ma, no heater!"

"You came in that thing?"

And so the time has come
To fight for right or wrong
There is no-one
To save us from ourselves

Along the travelled road
A story will unfold
Of fantasies
Born in the age of innocence

I can see the rain begin to fall
Watch as the wind blows
Can you hear those engines when they call
Yesterday’s heroes

A game of consequence
We have to take the chance
And do our best
To keep the past alive

Soon we will return
A lesson to be learned
By those who try
To keep the fuel from burning

I can see the rain begin to fall
Watch as the wind blows
Can you hear those engines when they call
Yesterday’s heroes
Yesterday’s heroes
Yesterday’s heroes

Here we're helplessly
Searching for truth
Is it me, is it you?
Will our bodywork just crumble away?

I can see the rain begin to fall
Watch as the wind blows
Can you hear those engines when they call
Yesterday’s heroes
Yesterday’s heroes
Yesterday’s heroes

only a few minor edits!
