The forums been running quite frankly archaic software for years now. You can't send PMs (that I'm aware of?), there's no option for 'thanks' or to email a member directly and there's no 'quick reply' option on threads either.

Are there any plans for an upgrade?

Quoted for posterity? biggrin
That said i agree that they do seem dated compared to some other forums, replying is quick, & PM's can be sent.

Thanks wink (The word works perfectly well)

Yeah, and we want avatars and signatures please. Maximum 5 image per sig limit though, don't want to get silly.

And can we have sigs, and avatars, and I want to be able to see who the mods are, etc...?

Don't really want signatures, avatars are ok if they're small but the other stuff would be welcome. Knowing who the mods are would be nice too.

PH'ers rebelled against the Classifieds change . . . yes, the forums need a refresh . . .

Either you're trolling or you're an absolute spanner.

In all seriousness, not gonna happen.

Minimalist look works well, can browse at work, etc.

Just take a look at most other car forums yuck

Why not? Seeing as PH is a commercial concern, spending a few hundred quid on something like vBulletin to run the forum would be a big improvement.

Within vBulletin, the Administrators can turn certain functions (like sigs & avatars) off if they wish and the user options (like skins or an ignore option) are almost as great.

Having options like proper PM, search and multi-quote ability would enhance the entire PH experience.

For me, and I suspect many others, one of the appeals of PH is the clutter free grown up appearance. PH's forum software was written from the ground up and IMHO changing to phpbb or similar would be a downgrade.

This topic has been coming up for as long as I can remember, always with the same response.

Should it always remain the same. . . ?

No, of course not, but it hasn't. Lots of upgrades over the years. Doesn't mean it needs to look like a dog's dinner though! wink

Anyway, I'm sure Garlick or somebody will be along in due course to comment!

It might be simple but at least it works. Many other forums running other software as mentioned above are fraught with problems and down time.
