I see the thread on the cookie text splatter is closed (what if I DON'T want to accept cookies?) - but the good news is that the offending text is partly covered up by a sudden rash of cheap-looking useless adverts. At least I can kill those; it's like swatting flies. I have no idea what Patsy Kensit wants me to buy.

The cookie thread is closed because this is the website feedback forum. That means that you notify us of problems, and we get them fixed. Which is what I've said we'll do.

If it were called the "have a bit of a general moan about the team for quite a long time after everyone has noted that there's an issue to be fixed" forum, then the thread would still be open.

Thanks Stuart; my comment was not specifically about the text issue but 'What if I don't want to accept cookies?' Is it indeed an option?

No, it's not, if you want to be able to post in the forums. When you log in a cookie is used to keep you logged in on each page you visit.

The fuss, expense and misinformation that has been generated by the ICO on cookes is shameful. They are a fundamental part of how the web works.

This. In every respect.

Apologies for my sharp response earlier OP - it was uncalled for. I think you've had your question answered now though.

Needless to say that we do nothing nefarious with our cookies (lord knows that in here of all places someone would spot it immediately if we did) but we have to comply with this nanny stateism anyway.
