If I recall correctly, if your profile has your postcode in it, it will show threads started by other people in your vicinity.

It shows distance from your postcode in one column (which looks like distance to thread starter), and also requires the thread to have been posted to recently.

"local" really only applies to the thread starter, though. The one thread in my list was started by someone local to me, but recent contributions are from the other end of the country.
