BTaP-style Poppy avatar?
Discussion
Does anyone think there'd be any support for putting a little poppy avatar under the usernames of serving and ex servicemen/women up to the 11th of November?
I've thought about asking about this for a couple of years now, I think it'd be nice to see who is grafting for their country at this time of year in particular while reading through the forums.
Admittedly, it'd be almost impossible to check and the odd Walt would slip through the net but I reckon an honesty system would generally work pretty well, it'd be pretty dishonourable to say you're something you're not.

That's Remembrance Sunday.
My bad - compete aberration on my part - be good to put all the variants of the poppy up, for example you can get one with the sikh sword symbol, to reflect the nationality of those who fought on the side of the allies etc.Sticking with the "no mess/clutter" stance of the forums (with the notable exception of btap attending logos) I'd say we'd probably not do that.
We will of course shut the forum as per usual for the minutes silence a mark of respect.

I personally consider my poppy quite a personal thing.
It's a mark of respect to those who served.
It's a mark of respect to those who serve.
It's a mark of respect to those in my family who gave their lives.
While I don't serve I would want to wear a poppy to show my respect and gratitude were it to be available on PH (Obviously being a tech I could have one if I wanted were they a thing) But under your system that would be frowned upon, whereas it is not in the real world.
My personal counter proposal would be a page where you could donate money via PH to the legion and have a poppy as your avatar for the run up to remembrance day.
ETA: It's not about thanking a specific person for me. It's about thanking 'them' as a whole

I think that would be an excellent idea. Perhaps a little too late for this year but for next year perhaps and more so for 2016 with the centenary of the Battle of the SommeWe will of course shut the forum as per usual for the minutes silence a mark of respect.

Who knows, maybe we can have the same for any military regime PHers choose to support or pay respects to that doesn't use the poppy too?
Is that how you see the poppy appeal? In aid of a "military regime"? Really?Nevertheless, give us an example of what might be an alternative.

Probably not this year, just from a tech stand point. Maybe next year and we can organise it properly.
i know saying this will be as popular as s
tting in someones dinner but please don't do it, if a poppy why not a breast cancer ribbon? then how about a movember 'tache and then if we're doing that why don't we go the whole hog and have the prostate cancer uk logo?Gassing Station | Website Feedback | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
