Many threads in GG or The Lounge relating to kids or parenting or car seats or whatever just end up with a load of unhelpful "Mumsnet is that way >>>" or "Get a vasectomy! LOL!" comments from people who don't have kids.

Any chance of creating a new sub-forum for parenting and family stuff??

Given PH is quite a wide church these days, I have heard of worse ideas. All of the car seat / 7 seater / dad worrying about baby, etc threads could go here.

PH is the counter to mums net, no doubt with a few members using both, but it's not a bad idea?

As a new-ish parent I'd welcome it.

Why not just use Mumsnet? Seriously, why not?

It's very female dominated. Sometimes a male view (PH is majority male) can be handy. They aren't that welcoming on contentious issues.

If it got all the Parenting/baby seat/what 7 seater etc threads out of GG I'd support it

As a parent of a 12 year old I could always offer up advice, things I've done wrong/well, etc. for the newer parents should they want it. I'd also be happy to get advice on the parents with older kids as he's hitting the dreaded teen years in March.

Glad to hear there is some support for this. I appreciate PH has to keep sub-forums to a manageable amount, but I am convinced that a "Parenting & Family Matters" sub-forum would get used a lot more than some of the existing niche forums.

Alternatively, if there is really no way to create a new sub-forum, family stuff could be lumped in with the existing "Health Matters" or "All Creatures Great & Small" (!)

Would it be Family Cars, or family matters?

Family cars would be a sub forum of the cars main area.
But family matters might get buried in the health sections somewhere near the lounge.

Personally, I'd rather have it as a mainly car based forum, with a light approach to mods moving more general family posts.

But, that's just my opinion.

And there lies the problem you've got, for some reason some parents seem to see their breeding skills as a reason to adopt a totally irrational point of view, usually prefaced with "well, as a parent....." and seem to fail to understand that those of us not parents are capable of rational thought.

He didn't say that.
There are plenty of people without kids who add value to those threads.
But, there are also people who troll them, and it's those people he is talking about.

That's me told.

The people making the "DON'T HAVE KIDS! LOL" comments on parenting/family threads are all wonderful rational thinkers, and me seeing their contributions as dull and unhelpful is my problem.

We'll add this to this list of threads to add in 2014. We've added quite a few of late so I don't want to add it immediately, but we'll certainly add it to our list of things to do in 2014.
