Pistonheads infectid with a Trojan Virus?

Chaps, my antivirus software, Bullguard, just detected Pistonheads trying to load a virus onto my laptop. May be nothing but I've never had this flag up before so thought you should know about it!

Doing a little Googling this obviously isn't the first time this has happened here but rather than Pistonheads it seems to be a particular advert causing the issue.

Any thoughts anyone?

Try Google Chrome and it's various plug-ins, cuts out all ads and tracking, nasties etc.

This is a compelling reason to block the ever increasing amount of advertising that's being thrown at us by PH.

Obviously, they can't be responsible for the content of external sites, but it doesn't do their reputation any good does it?

Hear what you're saying but I'd rather not be forced into a change of browser simply because of a Tojan in an advert.

Agreed but presumably they test the adverts before they load them?

I don't always browse on a PC, so adblocker not always an option.
Would be nice to know the Hamsters have this under relative control.

Nope. This is one of the common infection vectors now. Either hack into or otherwise stick trojan loaded ads onto the ad 'providers' that then get spattered over 'safe' sites.

It was the music ads that started me using ad-blockers but IMO they're now essential to prevent from infections.

This is precisely why I have extensive ad blocking, and I also stopped using Facebook, as that too has rapidly become a haven for spreading trojans etc.

If a site fails to work because of my ad blocking, I now regard it as not worthwhile visiting.

Every now and then I use a PC without an ad-blocker and wonder how people cope!

As an example Virginmedia webmail is all but unusable without an ad-blocker and stylish, 1/2 of my screen is wasted with a list of only 13 emails at any one time and a tiny window to read emails in... After I wrote a Stylish userstyle (1271 people love me!) and with AdBlock as well I can see 22!

The new classifieds don't work if you have adblock though, mildly irritating, happily Ebay and A/T aren't so fussy

My philosophy is if it doesn't work with adblock - then I go elsewhere.

There are plenty of choices - that's what the internet is all about.

BTW, classifieds work for me with my own ad blocking

Don't know what you're using, but classifieds works fine with adblock plus and flashblock on chrome.

I'm not sure what you mean by this statement.

But scam adverts will be served up from the same place as legitimate adverts - so this won't make any difference to scam adverts at all...

I resisted using Adblock for years as I know the ads support the site, unfortunately due to the sheer volume of crap ads popping up, making noise etc on my work PC I went down that road

On the new new classifieds this means I won't see any pictures

That leaves me with a choice, risk virus warnings, musical/speaking ads and pop ups on my work machine, or shop elsewhere....
