'No ads' account upgrade?

Firstly I fully appreciate PH is a commercial entity and needs to pay the bills.

However the profusion of ads is really annoying - the part content, part surf history model is to me completely ineffective - the John Lewis has already shown the missus two of the presents she's getting, and all it ever seems to show me is things I have already bought! And some various nasties on the way, Thai brides, uniform dating, etc etc.

Plus quite a few times some highly obtrusive adverts have appeared on a Friday and then don't disappear until the next working week.. Maybe the agency has worked that out to make a fast buck ..

So, could there be a paid account upgrade that legitimately removed all ads from every page..? I don't know what a single user is worth per year in terms of ad rates but I can't imagine it would be a huge rate .. One off payment once a year or maybe a lifetime .. Good idea / bad idea..?

It's been discussed before, and the answer was no. I don't see why you'd want that, as the ads hardly misbehave, and it's common across many sites to see ads of products you've recently viewed to be shown.

'Hardly misbehave'? I suspect that is up to the ad consumer to decide, and then decide if they wish to consume the ads, or block them.

In the olden days, I would have seriously considered it, but now with adblockers, I really dont see how a sub service would work.

Bottom line: the ads look tacky, are annoying and to me are useless.

Most other sites I visit don't have the same sort of ads running. (perhaps I choose the sites on that basis)

So, instead of installing adblocker and depriving PH of any revenue (presuming it needs the ad money and doesn't make billions from classifieds) I was thinking of something a bit fairer..
