I'm starting to get sick of reporting these and it being ignored or ads stay up for multiple days after report.

Example:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

An obvious scam, I report it. Result, scam advert stays posted for days.

PH is therefore an active platform for use by scammers and shysters. I wonder why the credit cards or IPs of these users aren't banned or if they are why action isn't taken sooner.

Although they are obviously con merchants I hate to think of someone being suckered in by these scammers.

How does such a scam work, you are talked into sending a deposit for a car that doesn't exist or something?

I went through a stage of reporting them, they seem to time them as to pick weekends/bank holidays knowing it takes a while to pull them down.

Its been going on for months. Can we assume the PH classifieds are getting paid for the adds?

I would assume they were legitimate ads that have been hacked and re-written by the fraudsters. I wonder how they hack the ads.

I think that's the case. I know every Monday the classifieds teams remove a load of dodgy ads that appeared over the weekend. The basic rule of thumb is if they say not to contact them through PH the they are dodgy.

When I listed my car on the classifieds a few months back I was sent a fairly convincing phishing e-mail telling me I had an offer and to log in via a link to see it. I would imagine they get usernames/passwords like that.

Can you please link to the specific ad so I can point our ads team towards it? With just under 84,000 ads it can be quite difficult to weed out the dodgy ones.

It was the OPs example, but it has finally disappeared.

Itll be back soon though! I have reported the same ad (996 with GT3-alike Aero kit) on several occasions in the past.

Surely there has to be a way of banning these people based on the payment method they use and or IP addresses?

The problem here is both the system and the scammers.

If I was a more cynical person I'd almost think PH allows these ads because they're making money from them.
