Sorry but the homepage in just the pits

Got to say this because it has been eating me for a while, but the homepage, and a lot of the website is just such hideously unattractive design. Which is very sad because the writing and content is superior. But it is getting lost in a toilet of bad layout and type. There seems to be no desire to create an enthusiasts environment, even the most smashing articles lie withering behind what looks like bad classified design. When you compare it to the joys of Petrolicious your misery is just compounded. Depressing. Is a little love too much to ask?

The new homepage with the full frame adverts is driving me crazy. So distracting from the actual content.

I think there has to be a separation between the design of the content on the page and any advertising that takes over the surrounding frame... (yep, I hear you at the back say we are in control of it all).

But, constructively the design team have more control over the content design - so feedback has been taken into account and changes and tweaks go through all the time, so we do listen and review. We are working on the homepage and news content to be similar at the moment - and anyone who cares, fancy dropping me a PM and I will send you through the designs so that direct feedback can be made to the teams here.
