There seems to be a general practice of quoting the entire contents of a previous message in a reply, which is making many threads unduly long (and tedious). I can't help thinking that this may be due to the "quote" icon on messages, which defaults to doing just that.

Might I suggest that the icon be modified to require part of a message to be highlighted first, to encourage more thought as to what is quoted? Sigs were a minor nuisance in comparison.

whilst I'm ready to be shot down and have my professional name dragged through the mud (it's there already) ASP has no way of knowing what has been highlighted in a browser when you press the quote button.

You can use the {quote} {/quote} but then you already knew that.

Or you can just highlight and delete the piece of text you don't want. Rich...

I'd have thought someone reasonably competant with Javascrpt would be able to make something of getSelectedText.
