Can PH please PLEASE do a feature on new car costs?
There is tons of data around that just needs to be put neatly and simply so the morons who type "£xx for a xxxx, its just a xxxx, no thanks !" to every news feature can FINALLY be silenced.
Escort Cosworth producing 226bhp was £21,380 in 1992
it did 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 140
That would have been £40,044.74 today with inflation.
it would have barely had ABS and a cassette player, let alone all the other stuff we get on modern, premium performance cars.
then there's the other brigade.. 'car prices have just gone up more than wages' - no they haven't, if you are not earning enough then its YOUR fault, not the car industry! Set your sights lower and you won't be disappointed.
I don't mind a discussion about price, because it is of course relevant but let us at least have a good understanding on how much things generally f
king cost now!

Opinions are fantastic when they are based on SOME kind of education on the subject matter. How can you have a decent discussion on price if so many still think 'you can't buy a 200bhp hot hatch these days for £17k' or are comparing the cost of the latest model with the first generation of that model that came out 14 years ago without considering inflation or what extra the new one offers over the old one.

I think we all grasp inflation, but we also grasp economies of scale and volume and manufacturer cost cutting, etc etc.Ie, computers have improved no end over the years and have also got cheaper in fiat terms despite inflation.
A lot to do with cars could and should have done the same and given the last 8 yrs of economic doldrums shouldn't have much moved in price since materials and labour are static while technology improves.
Cars do seem expensive, more expensive than they should be. That isn't normal and putting it purely down to people being simple and not grasping inflation isn't an ideal rant or subject for website feedback either.
Just read over stuff if it's only you who appears to have s specific gripe with it.

It was more a suggestion for a news feature that i turned into a rant, i should have been more focused in order for the motivation to be more obvious.

I'm an experienced ranter too so no worries!
But yes, it'd be quite interesting to look into the car price factors.
The current 'bubble bursts 2015' thread is quite good with some interesting posts by some people on the matter of cars and values.
