I'm on an iPhone 4s and PH has taken me a few times to the App Store, I think it's now 6 occasions from different pages in GG and now this page I'm on now (ie start new topic).

It takes me to this app(can't tell if it's dodgy?) it's happening as I'm browsing the full site on mobile, on mobile internet earlier and now home wifi.

Screenie of app attached.

Just to add, it's not necessarily when I'm clicking on a link, it can be if I'm literally not touching my screen and on the website feedback sub forum.

Eta it did it when I edited this post. When I close the App Store, it asks me if I wan to open this page in he App Store.

Had the same on Android this afternoon, likely a rogue ad

I'll speak with the Ad ops team tomorrow and see if I can find out what's going on

Hi Simiod

Having investigated this with the developers, it appears to me a rogue ad. I would suggest clearing your cache on your phone

Press Settings > Safari.
Scroll down and tap Clear History and Website Data.
Tap Clear History and Data.

I will also me speaking with our ad ops team to see how we can trap it.
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks

Ollie

Hi Ollie,

No having a rant at you, but this is the same issue I started a thread on in June! And Ladbrokes was a main culprit then too so to say its a rogue ad may be stretching the truth.

I don't browse PH on my phone anymore because of this issue, but it's disappointing to see its still on going! How serious are the developers taking it? I appreciate they have bigger fish to fry but they have had months now!

Thanks for the update, I've not had it today (just had a wee browse at lunch and now that I'm home) so fingers crossed. I think I recall it happening a few months ago too and I think it was the same app. Cheers thumbup

Would it be possible to permanently change the pattern of behaviour ?

There are continual issues with this, sound in adverts, auto playing adverts etc

The latest PH person speaks to a "team"

It gets fixed

then repeated again

Can anyone who has experienced this issue tell me what advert appears when the redirect takes over or have a screen shot they can upload as Ad ops need that to track where the problem is originating from.

thanks

Answer from our ad people:

We actually ban ads that redirect people away from the site, however, there a couple that slip through the net, from time to time, so if you do come across one please can you inform PH of which advert is causing this.

Many thanks

Adblocker completely solves the issue. Crystal works very well for me.

Had this a while back: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

If PH can't sort this out, the only option is to block all ads in order to protect yourself. I find it very worrying that PH seem to have no control over what third-party ads are doing to their users. It's a pretty dire state of affairs and actually nudging me toward rooting my new Nexus 6P so I can ad-block.

It's ridiculous that they've let control go so far to their ad sales team that they just take the highest bidder no with very little care for what's displayed.
Try browsing on a device that isn't logged by Google and you see some awful adverts.

I'm afraid this is what led me to install an adblocker. Seemingly little to no control over what third-party content is displayed on PH.

Ollie you mean well, but the issue of poorly-designed and intrusive advertising has been raised again and again.
