Forum software - update needed!

When is the (this) forum software going to be updated, 10 years ago it was.excellent, but now its lagging well behind, lacks and modern features, and is all but unusable on a smartphone.

Oh, I don't know. Some might say it smells a little stale in here and the beer hasn't been the same ever since Wetherspoons took over.

Works fine on my iPhone, in fact better than the desktop browser in some ways.

What "modern" features is it missing?

How about a nice editor toolbar for a start? It would save having to type URL / URL for links etc.

Oh, and proper code formatting that works with more than a single chunk of code would be good too.



ETA: phpBB and various other open source forums have had a similar editing screen for 15+ years...

So yes PH is beyond obsolete in this respect, and it also lacks stability.

I agree - a better posting editor would be nice without having to remember non-standard markup codes. That bit is very 1999.

PH forums works great.

There are no avatars because avatars are st. It has a clean pure look that's functional. I even like the image handling.

This is because it is arcane and difficult so the people who really shouldn't be allowed to post images can't

A simple text editor like the above would be handy.

I'd hate the editor window above personally. I quite like the year 2000 simplicity, no point moving it into 2003.

It used to be zoomable, so that's an arcane feature you can add without appearing to pander to anyone asking for a software update.

Agree on sigs and avatars.

But entering markup code for bold/italics/etc isn't even vaguely user friendly.

Doesn't have to be a full blown word processor but a few easy UI improvements for text entry...

It's not that difficult to add a [b] or [u] tag to some text as you type it. Just my own opinion - what else is needed? Don't need to change fonts, or colours, etc
