Why do I get a different look depending on whether I'm using my 7" tablet, or my mobile phone? (Both nexus devices)

I prefer the look on the phone, as it responds quicker and looks a lot nicer, but when I'm on my tablet, it's completely different

We do device detection and serve based on that, and then on screen width of the device.

So the system is detecting the phone and tablet as those types and serving different views of the content best for the device. Some phones and tablets are now quite close to each other in size and view, so we do get the occasion where a phone view or a tablet view would be more appropriate on that device, as appose to the one selected.

What are the exact Make and Models and I will have a look what the system is thinking you are?

My tablet is a nexus 7 2013 and I would rather have the phone layout, as the current one is missing certain features and doesn't look as nice, plus it runs a bit sluggish
The phone is a nexus 5

Is there or can there be a way to manually overide the clever computer? Its serving full width to my samsung s4a which makes it pretty unusable. Was fine mobile optimised width before.

Hi hairyben,

Are you using the GTI skin? Can be found in 'My Preferences'.

That is strange, it looks fine on a Samsung Galaxy S4. I will investigate our device detection next week.

Cheers,
Dom

it's the s4 "active" - not a massively common phone

how does device detection work, my phone identifies itself then the server references a database?

Hi FurryExocet,

Thanks for the reminder. smile

As for the samsung s4a I can't find anything that distinguishes the samsung s4 and the s4a, and the specs are very similar, meaning we SHOULD be treating them both the same, so that's a bit of a mystery at the moment.

With regard to your issue, unfortunately there isn't a tablet-optimised look for the forums; only the desktop look and the mobile look.

Thanks,
Dom

Whatever changes have been made, can you revert them?
This is my search result, as you can see, pretty useless, as I can see the results

Hi FurryExocet,

I'm not aware of a way to get the mobile look on tablet devices.

We haven't released anything to the forums in the last 48 hours, so I can't explain why your skin has changed. Are you logged in and on the GTI skin in that screenshot?

By the looks of that last screenshot, it looks like something is going wrong with our device detection for Sony Xperia. Which Xperia is that?

Thanks,
Dom

Its the Gti skin and a Sony Xperia Z5. It was working fine the last time I logged on. I've just checked today and its back to normal now
