So another very amusing thread is closed - allegedly because of the sharing of personal information (a web site that is very clearly in the public domain).

Yet the post with the 'personal information' is left clearly on show? rolleyes

If the personal information really was the issue then why not simply edit the post to remove it and ask the poster not to do it (or put a note to that effect in the edited post)?

Come on guys, if you're going to treat us like children and tell us what we can and can't talk about, at least be honest about it.

yes

I agree about the issue of posting peoples details but then to leave them on show does seems strange.

Par for the course with the moderation on here.

Bizarre.

Rather amusingly the thread appears to have suffered as a result of referencing a certain user that only reappeared at the start of this year. The same user that doesn't seem to have provided much value in any of their posts in the SP&L section apart from deliberately stirring up other users by posting their supposedly "true / life experience" tales - most of which were quite well suited to threads related to cringe & fantasy based on their claims / content.

Sadly nothing seems to have been done about those ridiculous posts, yet Haymarket seems to happy to drive people with actual REAL experience, like Breadvan, Loon and various serving Police, etc, away from that forum (because they actually call the idiots out in their lies / stupidity) in favour of tripe spouted by the user that shall not be named and others similar to him frown

Path of least resistance I suppose. Shut down the threads that someone complains about because they're being made to look an arse - much better than applying any actual thought or logic (like, if you don't want to look like an arse, don't post stuff that makes you look like an arse).

Personally I thought that the cringe and the fantasy thread were good for PH, might give the wide boys and dreamers pause for thought if they were concerned that they might be pulled up on their bullst.

But no, let them carry on, meanwhile the more intelligent get pushed away by it, either posting less or simply not bothering.

Great shame, but I guess it's all just about the numbers.

I enjoyed the cringe and fantasist threads, but some posters are very touchy about being held up to ridicule, no matter how cringeworthy or fantastic their posts.

I do wonder why these threads get closed - are some touchy people more priveliged than others, or are some of the people being laughed at PH's incognito stealth moderators, or is it just the easy thing to do when someone complains that they are being mocked?

I noted a recent thread where several people hectored the OP and repeatedly accused him of lying and making things up, to the extent that the OP (a long term member) has apparently left PH.
How is that ok, while reposting and commenting on cringeworthy posts is not?

Bloody shame.

Certain members are clearly big babies and can't be held to account for anything (like a child funnily enough).

Actually, quite a few posters responded and laughed with us at themselves, that's what people failed to see.

The concept won't die, Ari.

I think that's basically true. Any car salesman thread that doesn't go their way for instance, tends to get shut down pretty quick after a word to the mods. They even get their own special secret forum FFS. biggrin
