I have an idea for addressing the problem of linking big pics to a thread with the [pic] tag, both from a screen width and hosting website bandwidth point of view.

Since the GS no longer allows raw HTML (which was the other way of linking pics), Ted has total control over the linking process since only [pic] works now.

Given that there are server-side graphics libraries freely available, would it not be possible for the GS code to auto-thumbnail any image over a certain size / resolution and store the thumbnail on the PH servers and resolve the [pic] tag into code that will pop up a window displaying the full-size pic. Much like the articles in the rest of PH do.

Of course, the downside is increased server-side CPU, memory and filestore usage.

EDIT: Err, oh, sorry. I see that this has been pretty much covered by this thread

It is possible yes. My reticance (sp?) to date has been due to the bandwidth implications. I think I've got that covered though so I am working on a trial system to allow that.

It's probably a month or two before it will see the light of day though.
