Three times in the last week threads in the Watch forum have been removed as valuation threads are not allowed, even when I asked in this forum last week the thread was closed.
The only rule I can find is:-
Do not post or link for the purposes of advertising or personal gain (including cars for sale) or cross-post across multiple forums. If you wish to advertise please use the classifieds or contact us directly. Please note that we do not allow members to advertise their own car in the forums, nor do we allow members to post asking for valuations on their current car (please use the classifieds as a guide).
Now seeing as it's not a car and no one was going to gain anything from knowing what their watch or piece of jewellery was worth, can someone explain why the threads were removed or point me in the direction of the rule it breaks.

"I'd like to know what this is worth. I'm not thinking of selling it, oh, no. Honest, I'm not. Don't even contemplate contacting me to ask if I'm selling, because I'm not. Honestly. I'm really, really not. Nudge, wink."The only rule I can find is:-

Basically I think they assume any kind of valuation question is you trying to be sneaky and avoid an advert. I've got a couple of watches where I wondered the rough value as I purchased them years back and never really kept up. I just go on Blowers or somewhere to look for a rough equivalent.
IMHO, you're being deliberately contrary as car is clearly given as an example, as they are not the only things sold in the PH classifieds.

You couldn't be further from the truth. As far as car being clearly given as an example, can I ask why you finished your bold quote 4 words early and didn't embolden the relevant part on their current car"4.Do not post or link for the purposes of advertising or personal gain (including cars for sale) or cross-post across multiple forums. Because, as Big Al has already explained, PH do not allow valuations of any kind for anything that is sold in their classifieds, car is used in the rules as an example, not to make it exclusive to cars.
Big Al, did not explain that at all.Big Al. said:
Valuation thread of any description will get routinely removed regardless of forum.
HTH.
Can't see anything there that relates to non posting of anything that PH has in their classified section.HTH.
As far as my post being removed is concerned, as others pointed out I wasn't asking for a valuation just curious on behalf of a friend if it was worth keeping. No financial gain to be made by myself and definitely not something I'd be interested in buying.
So....
No link posted
Not advertised
Not a car
The rule also states no valuation of their current car, does that mean I can ask "what's my old car worth now"
Rule 2. Do not be argumentative for the sake of it or be deliberately contrary.
Be very pleased I'm not a Moderator here, as you'd be getting very close to getting Forum bans from Website Feedback & Watches for breaking Rule 2; you are deliberately being picky/obtuse. Big Al has told you, "Valuation thread of any description will get routinely removed regardless of forum." and "Valuation threads are not allowed."
I'm really not sure which part of that you are not getting. It's really, really simple. Valuation threads are not allowed, it doesn't matter what it is for or how it is phrased.
You may well have not been posting it as "what's it worth", but the fact that you were posting a thread asking about value is itself a valuation thread. Especially as Variomatic tried to offer you a tenner + post for it, which tells you what you wanted to know

Looks like we'll never agree on this. Just for the record I am asking for clarification not an argument, nor trying to be contrary
I'll leave it here.....

From my moderator experience (read 160 months) valuation threads are in the main just veiled adverts, whilst you may well find them over previous years, they will routinely these days get removed. We are currently reformulating the current Rules of Posting to expand and close loopholes that currently prevail.
We have had instruction from HM to remove all valuation threads.

Thanks, that's the clarification I was looking for (I'm a newbie after only 102 months). We have had instruction from HM to remove all valuation threads.
Hopefully the new rules will be posted up soon in order to avoid any future confusion.
