I’ve noticed that threads just ‘disappear’ from the General Gassing forum for no apparent reason – a couple of examples recently are the thread on ‘James May’ and the carpool on the Porsche Cayenne, both of which I contributed to and enjoyed. (as did many others seemingly).

The threads are just ‘gone’ – if they are stored somewhere and are accessible I’d appreciate it if someone would point me in the right direction.

Now, there may be good reasons why they had to be removed, but it would be good to know what they are.

Would it be possible for the moderator to lock the thread, even go as far as to remove the offending posts (or all of them) and put in a statement explaining why? Maybe put them in a separate locked down area?

Anyway – this can be regarded as ‘Voice of the Customer’ – some response would be appreciated.

Thanks!
John

I agree with all of that. If threads disappear it would be nice to know why.

If you Google "pistonheads carpool cayenne page 1" you can then view the cached version of the thread, and changing the searched page number will bring up more.

There are probably better ways of viewing the whole thread but my Google skillz are a little lacking...

^^^Hhmm...thanks, but not working in this instance; when I open the Google links it just takes me to a Moderators page with the central message 'Nothing to see here'.

No matter - I'd pretty much read the thread, it was more knowing why it and others like it had been completely removed - a little bit of courtesy that's all.

Hi All,

In these cases the threads have been removed due to an official (and valid) complaint from a business or individual, or because we were receiving a large number of moderation requests about them. Also, we always remove threads if requested by the OP.

Currently once the thread is removed we don't have a tool to leave a message explaining where it has gone - hence it just "disappears". (they're actually moved to a private area to keep as a record)

However, this functionality is something that we can look into in future (although there are many more important things to tackle first!)

Hope that this helps

Thank you for taking the time to explain - now that I know that the forum does not currently have the functionality to explain why a thread disappears, I won't feel (as) irked when it does happen. smile

Appreciated,

Cheers,

John
