I'm not sure whether that's the point?

However, it's a bit unfair if people who have been on the site for years lose out to people who sign up to post once, never to be seen again.

There are websites that list competitions (and answers) which many people subscribe to

it would be a bit hypocritical for me to complain about them thou since my OH has won 2 trips to australia using them in the last 18 months

Which probably looks great when Haymarket are busy selling their figures to their investors, etc, and saying "look how successful our competition campaign has been, look many new users we have, how busy the site is and how many people we can market our ad campaigns to".

Not so good for accurate figures if most of those new users only post on a competition threads and don't actually use the rest of the forum, or in the other extreme the new users (or existing users registering multiple accounts) that join purely to troll threads & subsequently get banned

Indeed. Giving a st won't get you anywhere around here. Garlick moved on to much bigger and better things.
