Breach of copyright rules - explain please.

Inspired by the thread that asked about an explanation of the Naming and Shaming rules I thought I'd ask this.

How come we aren't allowed to copy and paste from new sites, or discuss/name sites from which to download music/film but it is okay for the Lepin thread which is discussing (and by extension advertising and promoting) a company which produces exact copies of Lego product (both obsolete and current) which is both copyright protected and a lot of which is licensed e.g. from Porsche and Disney, to run and therefore introduce the product to more posters, many of whom had never heard of it before and have subsequently purchased some.

Why is it different to news/film/music?

It was deleted by the mods a few weeks ago and then reinstated while they reviewed it.

Given it is still there I'm assuming they decided it was acceptable.

I'm interested in why that is the case given it doesn't look significantly different to discussing where to get movies for example. In both cases whoever is making the "purchase" knows what they are getting isn't genuine and breaches copyright.

It's a fine line, but threads discussing the issue of fake goods are OK. Those promoting the sale of such goods or downloads of copyrighted material are not OK.

I suspect you would be very happy if the thread was deleted, but there are many others who are enjoying the discussion. Why not join in yourself to discuss the issues of copyright infringement?

Which is intersting given the thread in question contains info on where to purchase the goods and a number of posters have made purchases as a result - which is therefore promoting the sale of those goods. as such it is not just a discussion - it has actually opened up a new market for this stuff.

Seems really odd that a media company like Haymarket which benefits from copyright protection is happy something like this to be publicised on the forum.

Still, means they can't object to my new business, Avtocar magazine - available online for 50p a few days (i.e. as long as it takes me to scan and retouch) after the next issue of Autocar is published.
