(ANSWERED)Is there a way to link to a specific forum post?

Is there a way to link to a specific forum post?
I see if I click the quote button for someone's post that it shows t= value in the url which is presumably the topic number like on phpbb boards, but because I'm quoting it I then get an r= value, presumably for the reply. Is there's a way to get the p= (post) value so that you can add them together in the URL to link to a specific post?
Any techie types here know how to do it?

Hi All that jazz,
Sorry but there is no way to do this. You can only quote posts in the current thread.

surely at the end there is an &p=<value> stored in the database somewhere for each post within this topic #1636039, no?
If you go via the username you at least get it highlighted, e.g.

Yeah I was just looking at that exact thing myself actually. So if you press the quote button on their post your get the reply number and then click on their username to get their mid number and enter them in the relevant places in the URL you can link to a specific post, and highlight it in a lovely yellow hue as well. Genius!http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Some much for these impossible things to do, eh techie James?

Apart from that not actually being quite what he was asking, it's definitely not true.Sorry but there is no way to do this. You can only quote posts in the current thread.

(albeit by the back door)
Find the post you want within the thread. Note the page number it's on. By default, each page is 20 posts. The pagination is done with the "&i=(post number)" in the URL. The second page normally starts at i=20, i=40 for page 3, etc. That number does not have to be a multiple of 20. It can be any digit. The first reply is i=1, not the original post - so page 1 is 20 posts, 0 (OP) to 19 (19th reply, 20th post); page 2 is posts 20 to 39 etc.
So, so long as you can count the number of posts between the top of a thread page and the post you want, just link to the thread with "&i=<reply number>" on the end of the URL. You get a 20-post (or whatever length your preferences are set to) page, starting at the post you want to link to.
