The site was attacked today by spam merchants. There was plenty of feedback from users but close to Fork All from the people who run this place. Is this a reflection of the contempt that the people running this place hold us in or is it just a case of lack of funding or utter incompetence? Either way it's starting to make me think that my time here as a contributor is over.

Get it together, appoint more moderators or start limiting new accounts.

I would say that is an over reaction. It's just a car and drivel website. And it is a Sunday. If it was my bank I would be a bit more inclined to think about taking my business somewhere.

What special status do you think any of us have here, to feel entitled to explanations?

It's a free community run solely for the commercial benefit of a large publisher.

If you, I or any number of those others, who've been here for donkey's years, disappear, it matters not to Haymarket, so long as the unique page impressions keep rolling in to justify the commercials.

Today's spamming is damaging to the site, but only in so much as it made the amenity useless, to a large degree. Whether or not the management choose to placate the small number of users who demand an explanation, is neither here nor there.

The answer is always the same- if you don't like it, start your own forum. CTF is out there as an example of what can be done (whether you'd call that successful is another thing altogether).

Big Al.

You are correct, and it was eventually sorted. It did take a while, but additional moderators would not have solved the problem or got it sorted any quicker.

We also spent time at the coalface sorting the problems rather than posting on the numerous threads/reports raised in many forums.
