"PH is now the UK's most popular 'Recreational Automotive' site (source: HitWise) . . . "

"Each month the site is viewed by over 400,000 unique users, gobbling up over 600GB in data transfer and serves around 20 million pages."

UK, how about foreign readers. That must be quite a figure?

But what I wonder about is: advertising on PH now is about driving courses, local TVR / Noble etc dealers, chip tuning and that sort of things.
I could imagine - being a commercial guy - lots of 'international' companies can put their message into exposure here. The Shells / BPs / Texacos, the Fords / VAGs / Opels, the Halfords / Kwikfits etc, etc, etc.

Is it a policy not to let 'em enter? Didn't they find the way to PH?

Cheers, Albert.

The nature of the advertising on the site is driven by two factors - the origins of the site and the way advertising works.

I've got good relationships with dealers and it's very easy for a dealer or small company to ring up and sort out some advertising with us.

Corporate advertising is a world of intermediaries. Buying agencies, selling agencies etc. etc.

We're now enjoying success in this area too though with Dunlop on board now, The Times earlier in the month, Vauxhall and Mazda last year etc. etc.

For media buyers in the corporate world it's often about minimising risk and going with what you know. Buyers stick with traditional outlets or just use the websites of magazines or newspapers with whom they're placing print ads.

To place ads with an independent site (i.e. not just another site within a publisher's portfolio) is sometimes seen as a bit risky and only the bolder buyers take chances.

The success we're having will help us gain more in future though as we can demonstrate a growing track record of success.

The mix of ads is important and I believe the 'grass roots' advertising is an important part of the content of the site as much as the news stories and the forum posts themselves.

The corporate advertising is the more lucrative though and success there is what allows us to grow things at a quicker rate than otherwise planned.
