A friend joined the forum yesterday, but today can't post anything on any sub-forum - even in reply to topics he created himself yesterday.

It says PH has disabled all posts for new members because there were spam posts made earlier today.
Seems a bit drastic to ban everyone new because of that?

He emailed PH in the morning but hasn't had a reply.

How long is the ban going to be in place?

Seems most of the Haymarket staff have no idea what 24 hours is. If you promise it , make sure you keep to it .

Sorry about this guys, it is really annoying and not what we want to be doing at all. We went into a safe mode over the weekend to try and stop the love gurus from filling the forums with random rubbish, which unfortunately stops genuine new posters as well - not ideal in the slightest, but at the moment is the only way we can stop them!

I've taken us out now so everyone should be able to post - sorry again for the inconvenience.

That worked then.

Reading between the lines of your post, its not a 24hr delay at all, its a manual portcullis switch.

By routine the site is always open for new members to post, the exception being Trustee mode where only trusted members (verified email) can post and when system glitches happen relating to new member restrictions.

What the rule states is

"We restrict new member access to certain forums for a period of 14 days; once that time has passed access will automatically be granted."

If that doesn't happen it usually for the reasons I've already explained in my previous post!

Hi Big Al. I'm lead to believe it's no longer automatic since the recent changes to the forums and the mods now have to do it manually. My account is over 14 days old but I'm blocked from posting in many forums.

As I've said it SHOULD happen automatically, if it doesn't, flag it up on one of the threads, or start a new one in here asking for assistance. smile

The Mods only have the ability to remove your restrictions on a couple of forums one being SP&L. If it's a forum wider/site problem then flag it up.

And are doing what ? I joined more than 3 weeks ago . if the automatic is not working as i mentioned. Why not just tell someone to manually sort it out etc ?

So which part of "flag it up" do you need explaining?

So, just for clarity what forums/threads can you not post in.

Hi Al, it still says I'm unable to post or reply in SP&L and Lounge forums, for example, so are you sure the mods have access to "unlock" that?

Also Jack Mansfield who is presumably one of the higher PH echelons from his post colour has already posted in this thread so I'm reluctant to start another one about the same issue. Seems rather counter-productive to me? Suffice to say that the 14 day automatic "unlock" is not working from what I can deduce from my end. Maybe you can raise the issue with the relevant department(s).

Can't see any problems on your profile, I'll flag it up for you. smile
