London Bridge incident thread
Discussion
I understand it must be incredibly difficult for the mods when threads start to go downhill but is there another option rather than closing them. Are you able to exclude the offenders from the thread ?(I'm talking in general rather than just this particular thread) It seems a shame that we are not able to discuss some of the hot topics of the day on such a broad forum.

That is usually what happens. Although, in some cases by the time we get to that stage, we have pages of nonsense and arguing in and amongst the normal posts that would need deleting, thus leaving a thread that is pretty much ripped apart with loads of gaps and formatting issues. Leaving us with no choice but to get rid unfortunately... As you say, it is a massive shame and the few ruin it for the many!
Just FYI, we're not stopping anyone talking about anything (within reason!), feel free to carry on talking about it! We just ask that any offenders get reported straight away and we'll keep an eye on it too

Jack, I'm not one for reporting people simply because they seem to think being right on the internet is the be all and end-all.
That said, I'd like to know if there any kind of plan/will to deal with the playground that is NP&E.
You do have a very small minority who continually mess it up for the rest of us.

Having some sort of management of the forum would make a huge difference to PH but it just doesn't seem to exist even though there is or has been a 'Community Manager' or similar. That said, I'd like to know if there any kind of plan/will to deal with the playground that is NP&E.

Mods do their work and admin chip in every now and then but there's never been much in the way of visible directing of how the members should and shouldn't behave. Nobody wants to be dictated too but it's far too easy for idiots to ruin topics to the point where they become either pointless fights or are locked or deleted.
Why not add a message that pops up whenever a member enters NP&E (and possibly SP&L and GG these days) reminding them that they need to behave themselves. I know that doing anything tech based is a struggle for PH staff but it can't be beyond the whit of man to do something that simple.
PH has become more and more directionless over the years and I just can't see things improving as nobody seems to know what they're doing unfortunately.

There are already T&Cs which are either unfit or unworkable. It won't work so long as actions have no consequences.
Hopefully this new thread won't descend into childish nonsense

It was closed down due to the actions of one person who quite openly stated he wanted it closed down.
A bit like the subject matter though, he took himself down with it.
Stand down Lord H
Au contraire, he didnt say he wanted it closed down it was people like this poster who were playing strawman and ruined it for everyone elseA bit like the subject matter though, he took himself down with it.
Stand down Lord H

Until you'd done that it was ok - he made his initial point and you could have made a sensible argument about it, but no
I came in late to it, what you were doing was ridiculous
Even when big Al said stop you carried on
Meanwhile a couple of other posters were trying to keep to topic
Thank you for confirming he did want it shut down. Btw, he was banned from similar threads.
He also emailed Lord Hestletine to try and close the thread. That is a bit odd wouldn't you agree?
I just don't think it's appropriate to intimate people are bigoted and racist for holding perfectly legitimate views and opinions - it is something gavia denied, but was then uncovered as the truth when he PMd another poster.
You defending is admirable, but I'll founded.
It is a shame when a thread is closed down, but if someone is intent on doing so there is little to be done to stop it I guess.

In case you havent realised it was you and who shall be currently nameless who turned it into a pile of rubbish and didnt keep quiet when big Al said if it carried on like that it would closeHe also emailed Lord Hestletine to try and close the thread. That is a bit odd wouldn't you agree?

Meanwhile the other posters were trying post on topic around you
and yes the guy you were both having a go at did threaten to take it to haymarket/heseltine
What did you expect?
If youd thought about it earlier he'd unlikely made that threat, if youd taken the later advice, the thread would still be there
